Early data from MESSENGER'S Venus flyby

On June 5, NASA’s MESSENGER spacecraft, with CoE’s Fast Imaging Plasma Spectrometer (FIPS) aboard, performed flawlessly as it skimmed the cloud tops of Venus at 30,000 miles per hour, passing within 210 miles of the surface of the planet. FIPS, built by the Space Physics Research Laboratory, captured superb data; results from these exciting measurements are forthcoming.
